Card Technology: SanDisk has got its first customer for its TrustedFlash technology. Bouygues Telecom in France has adopted the technology—which allows the transfer of content to other devices that support the technology—and connected it to the SIM card, so that it will only play if that SIM card is in the phone.
“What we do in the case of Bouygues is we bind the content to the SIM, so that the content can’t be played outside of the Bouygues network,” Pascal Caillon, director of mobile content and security solutions at SanDisk, tells Card Technology. “But it’s really up to the mobile operators if they want to bind the content.”...When the subscriber wants to play or share a song, for example, the flash card will ask the handset to check the SIM card to make sure it’s a Bouygues SIM, says Caillon. This so-called SIM-binding could be limited to a particular subscriber, with the card and TrustedFlash software on the phone checking the particular IMSI, or international mobile subscriber identity number, on the SIM. SIM-binding of the content doesn’t require a new application on the SIM, says Caillon.”
