UPDATE: Helio Sells US Service In Sth Korea

By James Quintana Pearce - Thu 04 Jan 2007 06:20 PM PST

Telecoms Korea is reporting that Helio has started signing up customers in Korea...it’s behind a subscription wall so that’s all the information we have. Obviously, one of the company’s parents—SK Telecom—is already the largest Sth Korean mobile operator, so I’m guessing the idea is to target a profitable niche audience. More details on the way.
UPDATE:
Rick Heineman from Helio has clarified this for us… it’s not a South Korean service after all. “One of our US retail partners Selini and their Korean business partner World Mobile are providing the service of allowing people to sign up for Helio powered by SK Telecom in Korea so they are set up with mobile service as soon as they get off the plane in the US. This is not a Helio store offering service designed for Korea. Rather, it is an extension of our US retail footprint by one of our master dealers allowing those coming to the US to sign up for mobile service in advance.”
