Helio Store Open on Santa Monica Promenade

By Rafat Ali - Mon 20 Nov 2006 09:32 PM PST

I got pinged about this from my wife yesterday, when she was shopping next door at J Crew on the Santa Monica Promenade (I am still in Bloomington, IN today, at my alma mater): High-end MVNO Helio has opened its flagship store on the Promenade, and we have some pics of it here. The idea is a high-end lifestyle store..as you can see from the pics, besides the phones, the store also has paintings from emerging artists such as Tim Biskup, Luke Chueh, Suragluxe, Yumiko Kayukawa, Buff Monster, and users can download digital versions of the art as wallpaper for their Helio phone or purchase these original pieces from the store.
More stores will open soon in San Diego, Palo Alto and Denver and in New York in early 2007.
Gensler, the architects behind the Apple Store, are the ones designing the stories for Helio as well.

Sweet! A 1,500 sqft store with 3 phones in it.  What a joke.  Helio goes bye bye in 12 months.

I walked by the store on Sunday and it was totally empty.  It is very similar to the Apple store.  I dont think Helio will be gone in 12 months, but they have a HUGE hill to climb.

Hey - I was just in this store and I luv it!  I don’t care what anyone says because people are all just haters.  And, I totally like the art on the walls.  Especially because one of my favorite artists that I wanna meet one day is on my Helio and in the stores.  But you have the name wrong on your post -it’s supposed to be SUGARLUXE.  Anyway, I think it’s cool to see a big company appreciate art and design.
