In Spain, 83 Percent Of Digital Downloads Are Via Mobile

By James Quintana Pearce - Sun 11 Nov 2007 06:18 AM PST

People emigrating from Latin America to Spain have changed the music scene—at least the digital music scene, according to Billboard charts. The immigrants are not only buying Latin music, they’re buying the tunes on mobile phones far more often than native Spanish, reports Reuters. As a result, 83 percent of digital music sales in Spain are via mobiles, according to Antonio Guisasola, president of Spain’s label association Promusicae. In Italy 60 percent of digital sales are via mobile, and in France it is about half. Some hard figures: “Mexico’s Alejandro Fernandez’s single with Beyonce, “Amor Gitano,” had by late October sold 300,000 mastertone units in 26 weeks on the charts and 160,000 single downloads in 24 weeks. Jennifer Lopez’s “Que Hiciste” moved 280,000 tones and 140,000 single downloads.”
