Mobile ESPN Launches In India; Monthly Package Ranges From Rs 50-99

By James Quintana Pearce - Tue 31 Oct 2006 07:09 PM PST

Even though Mobile ESPN was disbanded in the US after eight months of its launch, the service has been launched in India hoping to capitalise on the fast growing mobile subscriber base in the country. With this launch, ESPN Star Sports will have its content like sports news, statistics, pre- and post-match analysis of all sports on all three outlets - the mobile phone, Internet (espnmobile.in) and TV. India has more than 100 million mobile subscribers and is adding about 4 million subs every month.
Mobile ESPN can be accessed by dialling 505-ESPN (3776) on the phone or by sending an SMS to the ESPN short code 3776. The service has been priced at monthly packages ranging from Rs 50 to Rs 99. Sricharan Iyengar, ESPN India vice-president (sales and marketing) and head of emerging technologies, will head the division. (via our sister site, ContentSutra)
