Reorg At HandsOn; COO McCurdy Leaves

By Rafat Ali - Fri 08 Dec 2006 09:12 PM PST

MocoNews.net has learned that HandsOn (formerly Mforma), the mobile gaming and content apps company based out of San Francisco, has gone through a reorg, and COO Keith McCurdy has left, only after about two months in that position (he was with the company for a while...previous to COO, he was the President of Studios and Products). That’s all we know till now...more Monday when we hear back officially from the PR (who haven’t responded to queries since yesterday morning).
I mentioned in an interview to The Deal earlier this week that the company, which had been planning for an IPO, might be a good acquisition target now, and could include the likes of InteractiveCorp, Yahoo or others.
Updated: HandsOn has appointed Lynne Crawford as the new COO, Jonathan Sacks told me in an e-mail. Crawford has been the former COO and EVP of AOL’s International Division, CFO of AOL operations, and controller and VP of The Walt Disney Company. McCurdy will remain an advisor to the company.

HOMo does not make a good acquisition candidate.  The post-$ value of their last round is in the neighborhood of $400mm.  Who in their right mind will pay this for a flat-to-declining business with anemic margins?  It will be a good target if the valuation drops to below $150mm, but of course the VCs, too delusional from drinking their own Kool-Aid, will never agree to this.

I’ve worked with Keith, and can only say he is a total sociopath that should not be allowed into any management positions. That’s three companies (EA, Blaze and now Hands On) who have let him go after relatively short stints in senior management. My condolences to whatever company next hires him.

Don’t forget Experts Exchange, which McCurdy ruined in a similar way and on a similar timescale as Kayak/Blaze.  Don’t those executive search firms do any real leg-work???

HOMO can’t tie their shoes.  Sacks should have read his own Dummy books on how to run a company.  He’s an ego maniac that has assembled a B-Team if there ever was one.  Everyone that had any talent at that company left over a year ago.  The ones without talent stayed and continued reaching for that carrot that would hopefully pay off so they wouldn’t have to worry about tricking someone else into hiring them.  Looks like that little wart on Sacks’ ass (Glu) is actually a malignant growth that will continue to spread as HOMO fumbles in the dark for the door.
