Verizon Touts Sideloading Music

By James Quintana Pearce - Mon 20 Nov 2006 04:19 PM PST

Verizon Wireless is hyping up the sideloading aspect of its music offering, according to RCR Wireless, as a bit of a response to Cingular’s recent announcement. Verizon has unveiled a new, free application designed to make it easier for Vcast Music subscribers to manage their libraries on their PCs and mobiles. Buying songs with the PC costs $1, on the phone it costs $2.
Verizon has also signed a deal with Rhino Entertainment, the division of Warner Music Group that oversees its archive. ”SONGS YOU KNOW: VOLUME 1, the first in a series of 10-song full-track download compilations, features an eclectic array of well-known tones from artists such a The Cure, Otis Redding, and Grandmaster Flash, to name a few. Each week, for 12 weeks, a new volume, for a total of 12, retailing for $9.99, will be released and feature dual delivery to both the computer and wireless handset.”
