Vodafone’s World Cup Avatar

By James Quintana Pearce - Tue 30 May 2006 10:05 PM PST

Vodafone UK’s FIFA World Cup gimmick is an Avatar that offers “a daily package of updates, images, comment and key facts from the finals”, delivered via MMS. According to the press release “this is the first time an animated pundit has been used to provide mobile updates from a live sporting event”, but I’m not sure how important that is. The talking head technology is by Glasgow-based Digital Animations, which has partnered with mobile data company Wireless Information Network (WIN) to provide the “animated sport pundit service” to Vodafone, and also T-Mobile, according to this article.
This is not to be confused with the official mascot of the games.
